In a tragic turn of events on a Saturday night in Augusta, Georgia, 61-year-old Victor Leon 'Vic' Perkins lost his life in his home on McNutt Road. On August 18, 2018, Richmond County officials responded to a call and discovered Perkins with a single gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 11:00 p.m.
The investigation quickly led to a startling revelation. The person responsible for the fatal shooting was Perkins' own 15-year-old grandson, Brad Bishop.
Perkins was not only the teenager's grandfather but also his legal guardian. In a confession to investigators with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, Bishop admitted to shooting his grandfather.
Following his admission, Brad Bishop was arrested and faced a murder charge for the death of his grandfather. He was subsequently booked and taken to the Richmond County Youth Detention Center. The motive for the tragic act was not immediately made public. Perkins, originally from Noblesville, Indiana, had been a resident of Augusta since 1982. He was a graduate of Purdue University and had a career as an aviation mechanic. He was known for being an avid gun collector and enjoyed hunting and working on vehicles.
