On a Friday afternoon, August 29, 2025, a fatal encounter unfolded inside the gym of the Shirley B. Winston Recreation Center in Columbus, Georgia, ending the life of 22-year-old Jacarie Charles. Charles was shot once in the chest and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Surveillance footage from the recreation center captured the tragic events, showing a suspect confronting Charles in an attempt to rob him of his belongings before the shooting.
