In the early morning hours of July 28, 2025, the city of Pueblo was shaken by a violent act that claimed the life of 31-year-old Ian Martinez. At approximately 9:08 a.m., officers from the Pueblo Police Department were dispatched to the 600 block of E Arroyo Ave following reports of a possible shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered an adult male in the street, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services transported him to a local hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the death of the male, identified as Ian Martinez, was swiftly undertaken by detectives from the Pueblo Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Unit and the Crime Scene Investigations Division. Their diligent work over the following weeks led to the identification of a suspect. On August 18, 2025, an arrest warrant was served to 18-year-old David Michael Lucero for the charge of First-Degree Murder after Deliberation. Lucero was already in custody in Colorado Springs on a parole hold at the time the warrant was served, just one day after his eighteenth birthday.
Following the service of the warrant, David Michael Lucero was transported to the Pueblo County Jail, where he was booked on the murder charge. A cash-only bond was set at $3,000,000. The death of Ian Martinez was recorded as the seventh homicide in the city of Pueblo for the year 2025. While an arrest has been made, the police investigation remains ongoing.
