In a tragic and senseless act of violence, 13-year-old Diamond Moore was killed on June 20, 2025, when she was struck by a bullet fired into her Montgomery, Alabama, home. The young girl was asleep in her bed on Greensboro Court when the fatal shot pierced through her bedroom window. Family and friends described Diamond as a joyful and bubbly teenager with a big personality who was a cherished student at SouthLawn Middle School.
She was an active and beloved member of her school community, serving as the captain of the cheerleading squad and also playing tennis.
The community reeled from the loss of a young life with so much promise. In the days that followed her death, family, friends, and classmates gathered for a balloon release to honor her memory, sending more than 100 balloons into the sky. Family members, devastated by the loss, called for justice. The Montgomery Police Department pledged to find those responsible for her death, with the police chief at the time acknowledging the egregious nature of the crime.
Months after the shooting, in November 2025, a significant development occurred in the case. The Montgomery Police Department announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with Diamond Moore's death. The individual taken into custody was also a teenager. Due to the suspect's status as a juvenile, their name was not publicly released by the authorities. The teenage suspect is facing a charge of capital murder for their alleged role in the shooting that ended the promising young life of Diamond Moore.
