Michael 'Adam' Mahan, a 47-year-old White/Caucasian male, tragically lost his life on September 3, 2025, following a violent encounter in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas. The incident, which began as a road-rage altercation, escalated and resulted in his untimely death. Mahan was remembered as a dedicated family man, a 'Jack of all trades,' and a man of deep faith.
The events unfolded while Mahan and another driver, identified as Cristapher Jonathon Zuetlau, were both traveling south
on Central Avenue. The situation intensified after Zuetlau allegedly broke Mahan's passenger-side mirror, an act reportedly captured on Zuetlau's own GoPro camera. The vehicles came to a stop at the intersection of Central Avenue and Corporate Terrace, where a physical struggle ensued between the two men.
During the altercation, Zuetlau allegedly drew a firearm and shot Mahan multiple times. When officers arrived at the 4300 block of Central Avenue, they found Mahan lying in the roadway with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police were reportedly initially called to the scene by Zuetlau himself, who stated that he had shot someone.
Law enforcement quickly took the 45-year-old Zuetlau into custody near the scene of the incident. Following an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, Cristapher Jonathon Zuetlau was arrested and booked into the Garland County Detention Center. He faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, a terroristic act, first-degree criminal mischief, and discharging a firearm inside city limits. Zuetlau was held without bond.
