On a Friday evening in the Little Rock area, a planned exchange of firearms for money and drugs took a fatal turn, ending the life of Kelveontay Poole. He was identified as a Black male. The incident unfolded in Jacksonville, a city near Little Rock, at the intersection of Beverly and Caroline, where Poole and another individual had arranged to meet 20-year-old Jay Longhibler to conduct the transaction.
According to the investigation by the Jacksonville Police Department, the meeting
escalated into a robbery when one of the men with Poole allegedly brandished a gun and took the firearms from Longhibler. As Poole and the other individual attempted to flee the scene, Longhibler opened fire on them. Poole was struck by the gunfire and found by officers in the roadway, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
In the immediate aftermath, Jay Longhibler was identified as the shooter and later met with police. He claimed to have acted in self-defense after being robbed. However, following their investigation into the circumstances of the deadly encounter, the Jacksonville Police Department arrested Longhibler. He has since been charged with capital murder in connection with the death of Kelveontay Poole. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
