In the days leading up to his death, 23-year-old Alexander Davis, a Black / African American male from Little Rock, Arkansas, had a sense of foreboding. He shared a cryptic message on his Facebook page that read, 'A good heart going to get me killed, I can feel it.' Tragically, his premonition came to pass on the evening of Monday, November 23, 2020. Shortly before 6:30 p.m., Little Rock police were called to a shooting on Eagle Drive.
Upon arrival, they discovered Davis, who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The day before he was killed, Alexander had been giving away turkeys to those in need, an act that his mother, Brandy Baker, felt exemplified his good heart. In the wake of his death, his family was left grappling with immense grief and a desire for justice. His mother remembered his crooked smile and longed to hear him call her 'Mama' one more time. Family members, including his cousin Kaneika Miller and aunt Stephanie Newton, spoke out, calling for an end to gun violence and pleading for anyone with information to come forward to help find who was responsible for his death.
For over a year, the case remained under investigation, leaving a painful void for his loved ones. Then, in March 2022, the Little Rock Police Department announced a significant development. They had arrested and charged 37-year-old Bennie Powell Jr. with the capital murder of Alexander Davis. The arrest brought a measure of hope for closure to a family that had waited so long for answers in the tragic and untimely death of a young man known for his kindness and community spirit.
