In the retirement community of Sun City West, Arizona, a quiet afternoon was shattered by an act of violence that ended the life of 80-year-old Mary LaFountain. On September 15, 2025, the tranquil setting of the Grandview Terrace long-term care campus was disrupted by a double shooting. A White / Caucasian female, Mary was found by Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputies with a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident, which initially prompted a
significant law enforcement response, was later determined to be a murder-suicide. The investigation revealed that Mary LaFountain was shot by her 81-year-old husband, Glen Fifarek. After shooting his wife, Fifarek turned the gun on himself, sustaining life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
According to public records, the couple had purchased a condominium in the Grandview Terrace community the previous year. Homicide detectives took over the investigation at the scene. With the suspected shooter deceased, authorities concluded that there was no ongoing threat to the community, and no arrests were made in connection with the tragic event.
