Nora Ann Dimuria, a 64-year-old female, and her husband, Michael, were found deceased in their home in the Red Lake community, north of Williams, Arizona, on May 2, 2017. A neighbor discovered Michael's body and alerted the Coconino County Sheriff's Office, who then found Nora deceased inside the residence. Their home had been ransacked, and their white 2006 Jeep Liberty was missing, leading investigators to treat the case as a double homicide.
The investigation quickly identified a suspect, 29-year-old Derrick Shawn Barnett of Grand Junction, Colorado. Authorities in both Arizona and Colorado collaborated to locate him. The Dimurias' stolen Jeep was found abandoned at a campground in Dove Creek, Colorado. Shortly after, Barnett was spotted in another vehicle, and after a 30-mile high-speed chase involving the Dolores and Montezuma County Sheriff's deputies and the Colorado State Police, he was apprehended.
Upon his arrest, authorities recovered property believed to be evidence in the case. A criminal complaint was filed, charging Barnett with the murders of Nora and Michael Dimuria, theft of a means of transportation, and misconduct with a weapon. He was initially held in custody in Colorado on local charges, with Coconino County seeking his extradition back to Arizona to face the murder charges. Nora was remembered as a dedicated nurse who, alongside her husband, was known for her kindness and willingness to help others in their community.
