In the spring of 2004, a domestic dispute in Apache Junction, Arizona, ended in the tragic death of 30-year-old Theresa Borquez. On April 7th, in the home she shared with her family, Theresa was shot and killed. The incident, which unfolded in the presence of her four young children, cut short the life of a woman remembered for her warm smile and dedication to her kids.
Authorities identified her husband, 37-year-old Gilbert Borquez, as the perpetrator.
He allegedly shot Theresa multiple times following an argument. Law enforcement arrested Gilbert at the scene and subsequently charged him with murder. In the wake of the tragedy, the children's grandfather traveled from out of state to assume their care.
Theresa was an employee at Banner Baywood Hospital and had previously worked at Valda Rose Medical Center, both in Mesa, Arizona. Friends and colleagues remembered her as a person with a wonderful outlook on life, who cherished spending time with her children. She was survived by her four children, her father, and three siblings. Funeral services were held on April 14, 2004, followed by her burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale, Arizona. The community mourned her passing and rallied to support her surviving family members during the difficult time.
