Hai Van Pham, a 55-year-old Vietnamese male immigrant, was fatally beaten during a robbery at his convenience store in Houston, Texas, on July 15, 1995. Pham had moved to the United States with his wife and four youngest children in September 1994, hoping to build a better life.
