Luther Langford, a 66-year-old white male, was brutally murdered on June 1, 1978, in his home near Columbia, South Carolina. The attack occurred during a violent home invasion in which Langford was beaten to death with a baseball bat. His wife, Nell Langford, was also assaulted but survived the attack. The crime scene was described as particularly savage, with Langford suffering multiple blows to the head.
