On May 17, 1982, 18-year-old Hispanic female Blanca Isela Arreola Guerrero disappeared in Odessa, Texas. She was three and a half months pregnant and had recently married. That morning, she left home to drive her sister-in-law to work, intending to return shortly. Her husband, Joe Guerrero, became concerned when she failed to come back. He later discovered that the car she had been driving had run out of gas and was abandoned behind an Albertson's grocery store on 7th Street, with its emergency
lights flashing.
Witnesses reported seeing a young Hispanic female matching Blanca Isela Arreola Guerrero's description enter the store to use the phone. A store clerk also recalled seeing her get into a blue pickup truck driven by a white male. The interaction did not appear forced, suggesting she may have accepted a ride. Despite immediate efforts by her family and local law enforcement, including a missing person's report published on May 20, 1982, no trace of her was found for months.
Her remains were eventually discovered on December 30, 1982. The case remained unsolved until it was linked to a series of other violent crimes in the region. Authorities later identified Michael Eugene Sharp, a white male from Eastland, Texas, as the primary suspect. Sharp was a convicted serial killer responsible for multiple murders in Texas during 1982. He was apprehended on June 16, 1982, and later executed by lethal injection in 1997.
Blanca Isela Arreola Guerrero, the 18-year-old Hispanic female victim, was one of several confirmed victims attributed to Sharp. Her case, along with others, helped establish a pattern of abductions and killings that ultimately led to his conviction. The tragic loss of Blanca and her unborn child remains a haunting chapter in the history of West Texas crime.
