On August 21, 1984, the body of 20-year-old white female Deborah Lee Smith was discovered in Valley Stream, New York. Originally from Quincy, California, Deborah Lee Smith had reportedly been living in the New York area and was known to be involved in sex work, primarily operating in Manhattan. Her body was found wrapped in a blanket near a curb on Hunters Avenue. She had been shot twice—once in the head and once in the chest—with a large-caliber firearm at close range.
