On the night of June 1, 1990, 24-year-old Connie Lynn Royce, a Caucasian female, vanished after abruptly leaving a bar in Mount Clemens, Michigan. She was on a date with a man she had recently met, and they were accompanied by his friend. The trio had drinks at her date's apartment before heading to the Hayloft bar on North Gratiot. Surveillance footage captured them entering the establishment.
By all accounts, the evening seemed normal, with no indication of any arguments or unusual behavior at their table.
Around 11:00 p.m., while her date was in the restroom, Connie suddenly told his friend she had to leave. She left her purse behind, took off her shoes, and walked out of the bar. The security camera recorded her exit; she appeared to be intoxicated, stumbling and bumping into a wall as she left. Her date and his friend went to look for her shortly after but could not find her. They remained at the bar until it closed at 2:00 a.m., but she never returned. Her car was later found still parked at her date's apartment.
An investigation into her disappearance began after her family reported her missing on June 4, 1990. A possible sighting was reported by a pizzeria worker who thought they saw a woman matching Connie's description at a payphone just a block from the bar around 11:15 p.m. that night, near a late 1970s model car, but it was never confirmed if she got into the vehicle. Another reported sighting a few days later in Clinton Township was investigated and ruled out by police.
The two men who were with Connie that evening were interviewed by police and cleared as suspects. Investigators also spoke with her ex-husband and a former boyfriend, who were also cleared. Despite the investigation, which has been reopened over the years to explore new leads, no arrests have ever been made in connection with her disappearance. Her case remains an unsolved mystery. At the time she went missing, Connie was divorced, living with her parents in Madison Heights, and was a student in business school.
