Dolores Earline Davis, a 62-year-old Caucasian woman, was tragically murdered on January 19, 1991, in Park City, Kansas. At the time of her death, she had recently retired from her position as a corporate secretary at Lario Oil & Gas Company in Wichita. Her murder was later attributed to Dennis Rader, infamously known as the BTK Killer, a serial murderer who terrorized the Wichita area for decades.
In the days leading up to the crime, Rader had been surveilling the home of Dolores Davis,
attempting to find a way to enter without alerting her. However, he struggled to do so, even retreating once when her cat began hissing at him. Eventually, he abandoned his usual method of sneaking in and instead threw a cinder block through a plate glass window on the eastern side of her house. Startled by the noise, Dolores Davis initially believed that a car had crashed into her home. She rushed out of her bedroom, only to find Rader standing in her living room, armed with a gun.
Rader falsely claimed that he was a fugitive on the run and needed food, warmth, and access to her car. He proceeded to handcuff Dolores Davis, reassuring her that he would only take what he needed before leaving. He even pretended to rummage through her kitchen for food to maintain the illusion. However, after removing the handcuffs, he restrained her wrists with a rope and strangled her to death using a pair of pantyhose. His actions reflected his sadistic tendencies, as he deliberately calmed his victims before killing them.
Following the murder of Dolores Davis, Rader went silent for over a decade, ceasing communication with the media and law enforcement. It wasn't until March 2004 that he resurfaced, reigniting fear in the community. His eventual arrest in 2005 led to his confession of multiple murders, including that of Dolores Davis. He was convicted and sentenced to 10 consecutive life terms in prison, ensuring that he would never be released.
