Do you know what happened to Derrell Carr? Derrell Martrise Carr, 23, a Black male, was inside an east Las Vegas apartment on the evening of September 9, 2014, when gunfire tore through the walls and windows. Metro police had been called a little before 8 p.m. to the Mirabella Apartments in the 2800 block of East Bonanza Road after reports that multiple shots had been fired from outside into a unit where several people were gathered.
Two men were hit; Carr suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and neck and died at the scene, while a second man was struck in the leg and taken to University Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.
In the days that followed, the Clark County coroner publicly identified Carr and confirmed the manner of death, while detectives described a barrage of rounds fired from outside the apartment and emphasized that the attack appeared to be directed into the residence. Reporting at the time placed the shooting at 2850 East Bonanza Road and noted the apartment was riddled with bullets.
Police said no suspects had been identified in the immediate aftermath, and the case has been listed by Metro’s Homicide Section with the suspect noted as unknown. Public appeals urged anyone with information to contact homicide detectives or Crime Stoppers; there have been no announced arrests connected to Carr’s killing.
