On December 29, 2024, at approximately 3:20 PM, Irving Police officers responded to a shots fired call at the 2200 block of Fairfax Drive in South Irving. The call was later upgraded to a shooting incident. Upon arrival, officers discovered 36-year-old Jessica Reecie Thomas, a female, suffering from gunshot wounds. She was immediately transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities ruled her death a homicide.
Later that same afternoon, police arrested 22-year-old Alexis Martin, a white female and a graduate of Nimitz High School, in connection with the shooting. Martin was charged with murder. The Irving Police Department did not specify the nature of the relationship between Thomas and Martin, but both were residents of the same house. Officer Neal of the Irving Police Department took Martin into custody, booking her into the Irving Jail at 4:38 PM. The following day, December 30, Martin was transferred to the Dallas County Jail. Her bond was set at $1 million, though it remains on hold pending the fitting of an electronic leg monitor.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. No further details have been released regarding the motive or any additional suspects.
