On January 13, 2025, 19-year-old Zacchaeus Selby-Mukum was fatally shot in the parking lot of an apartment complex located in the 2400 block of Laurelwood Drive in Arlington, Texas. Officers from the Arlington Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 5:49 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Selby-Mukum lying unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound.
He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Selby-Mukum, a Black male, had previously survived the 2021 Timberview High School shooting when he was just 15 years old. His tragic death four years later has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the incident. Witnesses reported hearing an argument before gunshots rang out, but the motive remained unclear in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. Detectives initially considered the possibility that high-risk activity may have been involved.
Following an extensive investigation, authorities identified 17-year-old Joshua Robinson as a suspect in the case. Robinson was arrested on March 11, 2025, by members of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force in Fort Worth. He was charged with one count of murder. Investigators determined that Selby-Mukum had used a social media app to arrange the sale of a handgun and had planned to meet a potential buyer that evening. The buyer was later identified as Robinson.
Surveillance footage from the crime scene showed Selby-Mukum approaching a Nissan Altima that had entered the apartment complex and parked. Shortly after, the driver exited the vehicle and moved toward the area where Selby-Mukum was later found shot. The driver then quickly returned to the Altima and fled the scene. Witnesses identified Robinson as the driver, and phone records confirmed that he had placed a call to Selby-Mukum just before the Altima arrived at the complex. Detectives believe a dispute over the firearm transaction may have led to the fatal shooting.
The investigation into the case continues as authorities work to uncover additional details surrounding the events leading up to Selby-Mukum’s death. His passing has deeply affected the local community, particularly those who knew him from Timberview High School, where he had previously endured a traumatic shooting incident.
