Julian Comeaux, a 21-year-old Black man from Houston, Texas, was fatally shot on February 16, 2025, in Midtown Houston. Comeaux, who was preparing to enlist in the Navy, was out with friends when they encountered a suspect attempting to break into one of their vehicles. In an effort to confront the individual, Comeaux was shot and killed, while another person sustained injuries but survived.
The Houston Police Department has released a composite sketch of the suspect, described as a
Black man between 20 and 30 years old, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium complexion and distinctive yellow or gold-tipped dreadlocks. The suspect was wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident. Authorities noted that the suspect fled the scene, leaving behind a shoe.
Comeaux’s family, devastated by the loss, has spoken out about his character and aspirations. His mother, Larisha Sellers, described him as a "miracle baby," emphasizing that she had been told she could not have children. She expressed her grief and called for justice, stating that no mother should have to endure such a tragedy. His cousin, Janesha Sellers, highlighted Comeaux’s compassionate nature, explaining that he was the type of person who would try to talk someone out of wrongdoing rather than resorting to confrontation.
The shooting has raised concerns about crime in the Midtown area, where vehicle break-ins are reportedly common. Residents have voiced frustration over the frequency of such incidents, with some noting that their cars had been broken into multiple times. Preliminary data from 2024 indicated a decrease in motor vehicle thefts compared to the previous year, but concerns about safety remain.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect to come forward. The Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division and Crime Stoppers are accepting anonymous tips in hopes of identifying and apprehending the individual responsible for Comeaux’s death.
