In the early morning hours of February 27, 2025, the life of 26-year-old D'Mond Taylor of Chesterfield, Virginia, was tragically cut short. Prince George County Police responded to a call of a shooting in the 5000 block of Owens Way at approximately 12:19 a.m. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Taylor suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services transported Taylor to Southside Regional Medical Center, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced deceased at the
hospital. The investigation into the shooting commenced immediately, with detectives from the Prince George County Police Department leading the effort to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
Within hours of the shooting, investigators were able to identify a suspect. Just before 6:00 a.m. on the same day, police located and arrested 24-year-old Charles Young IV of Petersburg, Virginia. Young was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was taken into custody and is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail. Authorities have stated that they do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the community related to this incident.
