Eugene McAlister, a 63-year-old man, was fatally shot in an apartment complex in San Antonio, Texas, on April 5, 2025. Authorities responded to reports of a shooting at Victoria Plaza Apartments, located at 411 Barrera Street, around 11:00 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered McAlister deceased from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. His death was later ruled a homicide by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The incident involved an altercation between McAlister and another man,
who was between the ages of 50 and 70. The second individual suffered multiple stab wounds and a compound fracture in his left ankle. He was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police have identified this man as the suspect in the shooting but are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. Authorities are working to determine whether the case will be classified as murder or self-defense.
The relationship between McAlister and the suspect was initially unclear, but Opportunity Home, the organization managing the apartment complex, later confirmed that the two men were cousins. The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement officials continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
