Summary based on 1 source
On February 10, 2010, 50-year-old Bernabe Maldonado was killed during a targeted attack at a bar on the west side of San Antonio, Texas. The incident took place at the You Know Sports Bar, located in the 1800 block of Bandera near Hillcrest, around 9:45 p.m. Two masked suspects entered the bar with firearms and approached Maldonado, who was employed there, shooting him multiple times as patrons tried to flee. Witnesses reported that after initially shooting Maldonado, the suspects left the bar but then returned seconds later to fire additional shots at him while he lay on the ground. Maldonado was then rushed to University Hospital with gunshot wounds to his chest and stomach, but he did not survive.

Investigators believe that Maldonado was the specific target of this brutal attack, and that it may have been a premeditated hit. Police found several hundred dollars on Maldonado's body, along with narcotics, leading them to consider possible motives connected to drugs or other illicit activities. There were indications that the suspects may have visited the bar earlier in the day under the guise of selling merchandise, possibly to identify Maldonado before carrying out the attack. Unfortunately, no surveillance footage from inside the bar was available, and police had to rely on neighboring businesses' security systems for any possible leads.

Despite extensive investigative efforts, the case of Bernabe Maldonado’s murder has not yet been solved, and the suspects remain unidentified. The San Antonio Police Department has continued to work on this cold case, appealing to anyone with information to come forward and assist in bringing justice to Maldonado's family. His tragic death remains one of the many unsolved homicides in San Antonio that law enforcement officials are committed to solving.
