In the quiet town of South Hero, Vermont, a tragedy unfolded on May 9, 2024, ending the life of 35-year-old Andrew "Drew" Lalumiere. A male resident of South Hero, his death was the result of a violent encounter that stunned the small community. The incident took place on a property on Kibbe Farm Road where both he and his uncle resided in separate homes.
Authorities were alerted to the situation when a 911 call was placed around 11:30 a.m., reporting the discovery of two bodies outside one of the residences. Upon arrival, law enforcement pronounced both Andrew Lalumiere and his 68-year-old uncle, John Lalumiere, deceased at the scene. The initial investigation pointed towards an isolated event, with no ongoing threat to the public.
Subsequent autopsies confirmed the grim nature of the events. Andrew Lalumiere's death was ruled a homicide, caused by gunshot wounds to his head and torso. His uncle, John Lalumiere, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, and his manner of death was determined to be a suicide. Investigators concluded that John Lalumiere fatally shot his nephew with a handgun before using the same weapon to take his own life.
With the perpetrator deceased, the Vermont State Police investigation into the murder-suicide concluded. The case was presented to the Grand Isle County State's Attorney, who determined that no further action was necessary, as the sole suspect was deceased.
