In a typically quiet Virginia Beach neighborhood, the life of 54-year-old Christine Renee Donahue came to a violent and unexpected end on Saturday, May 10, 2025. A lifelong resident of Virginia Beach, she was discovered deceased outside a home in the 600 block of Oleander Circle. The tragic events began to unfold around 12:20 p.m. when a neighbor placed a 911 call after discovering bullet holes in their property.
When Virginia Beach Police Department officers arrived at the scene, they
found Ms. Donahue on a neighboring property with a significant wound to her chest. While investigating, officers identified 54-year-old Brian Burton, also of Virginia Beach, as a suspect. He was located on the patio of the residence, reportedly holding a gun to his head, which he fired without causing any visible injuries to himself. Burton was then taken into custody.
Further investigation and court documents revealed that Burton and Donahue were in a relationship. The motive for the alleged crime appears to have stemmed from a domestic dispute; Burton reportedly admitted to shooting Donahue because she was planning to evict him from her home. Brian Burton has since been charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
