A verbal altercation in the parking lot of a Nashville KFC tragically escalated, leading to the death of 40-year-old Christopher Ray Smith on February 5, 2025. Smith, a father of five, was with a female friend outside the restaurant on Rosa L. Parks Boulevard when the fatal encounter occurred.
The incident began when an unrestrained bulldog belonging to 30-year-old Isaiah Alexander Maston approached Smith and his companion. A verbal dispute erupted between the two men.
Following the argument, as Smith and his friend turned to walk away, Maston allegedly fired multiple gunshots at Smith. Emergency services transported Smith to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Law enforcement located Maston a short time later, sitting on the steps of a nearby apartment building, and took him into custody without incident. The bulldog was taken into the care of Metro Animal Control. Maston was subsequently charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault. His bond was set at $210,000. Court records indicate that the case against Maston is ongoing.
