Her death certificate indicates that she died from a gunshot wound to the head inflicted by another person using a 9mm handgun. Alongside her, another adult male was also found dead in the apartment.
The male victim was identified as Lance Corporal Dariel Amarante, Maya's husband. Authorities determined that he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head with a 9mm handgun. The incident was discovered when police conducted a welfare check at the residence around 2:30 p.m. This tragic event marked the third violent death at the Charleston Place Apartments in early 2025.
As of now, there have been no public reports of arrests or charges filed in connection with the deaths of Maya and Dariel Amarante. The case appears to be classified as a murder-suicide, with Lance Corporal Dariel Amarante as the sole suspect in the shooting of his wife, Maya.
