On January 19, 2025, 23-year-old Hispanic woman Maya Amarante was found deceased in her apartment at Charleston Place Apartments in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Her death certificate indicates that she died from a gunshot wound to the head inflicted by another person using a 9mm handgun. Alongside her, another adult male was also found dead in the apartment.
