In the heart of downtown Memphis, on a Saturday afternoon, the burgeoning career of 27-year-old musician Latorian Hunt, professionally known as Sayso P, was cut short by a hail of bullets. On March 22, 2025, outside the Westin Hotel near the FedExForum, what should have been a routine day turned into a scene of violence that would leave one man dead and another wounded.
Hunt was in his hometown, a place he had left to pursue his dreams, visiting friends and family.
The attack was brazen and targeted. Assailants emerged from a white Dodge Charger and opened fire without any conversation, striking Hunt multiple times. Also caught in the gunfire was fellow Houston-based rapper Sauce Walka, whose real name is Albert Mondane. While Mondane was struck in the thigh and survived, Hunt succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Memphis Police Department was quick to assure the public that this was not a random act of violence, stating that the victims and suspects were known to each other.
The investigation that followed moved swiftly. Authorities identified two suspects, 21-year-old Jayden Dandridge and 23-year-old Kevin "KJ" Brown. A warrant was issued for Dandridge's arrest on charges of first-degree murder and other felonies. However, before he could be apprehended, Dandridge was found shot to death in Houston on March 31, leading to the cancellation of the warrant. The search for the second suspect continued for months.
The pursuit of justice for Latorian Hunt saw a significant breakthrough on October 22, 2025. U.S. Marshals, working with the Clarksville Police Department, located and arrested Kevin Brown at a motel. He was taken into custody without incident and faced a string of serious charges, including first-degree murder, two counts of felony criminal attempt, and multiple firearm-related offenses. Brown's case was held to the state, and he remains jailed on a $2 million bond as the legal proceedings continue.
