Mario Vargas, a 40-year-old male, was fatally shot on May 2, 2025, in Houston, Texas. The incident occurred at approximately 11 p.m. at 1446 Sherwood Forest Drive. Houston Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting and discovered Vargas lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. Despite efforts from Houston Fire Department paramedics, Vargas was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities quickly identified 22-year-old Nexon Camacho as the suspect in the shooting.
Witnesses at the scene provided statements implicating Camacho, and he was later located at Greater Heights Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he was receiving treatment for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his hand. Camacho admitted to his involvement in the shooting of Vargas. Following coordination with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Camacho was formally charged with murder in the 180th State District Court.
