In the spring of 2025, a promising life was tragically cut short in Columbia, Tennessee. Jayden Da'Shaun Braden, an 18-year-old male, was looking forward to his upcoming graduation from Columbia Central High School with plans to study computer engineering. Described by his family as a kind, humble, and hardworking young man with a great sense of humor, Jayden spent his free time playing PC games and fishing.
He was known for his dedication at his job at Wendy's and for the love he had for his family and his cat, Ginger.
On the evening of Tuesday, April 15, 2025, what began as a normal day at his residence on Whatley Street ended in tragedy. Around 5:30 p.m., a young man identified as 18-year-old Alijah Wolflin, an associate of Jayden's, arrived at the home. According to family members, Jayden recognized Wolflin and went to the door, at which point Wolflin allegedly began shooting. Jayden was struck by multiple gunshots and collapsed inside the house.
Emergency services were called, and upon arrival, Columbia Police found Jayden Braden unresponsive. He was quickly transported to Maury Regional Medical Center, but tragically, he was pronounced deceased. The sudden and violent loss of Jayden, just weeks before he was set to graduate, sent shockwaves of grief through his family and the community.
The Columbia Police Department swiftly launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. Through their investigative efforts, they identified Alijah Wolflin as the suspect. He was located at another residence in Columbia and taken into custody. Wolflin was subsequently charged with First Degree Murder, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Violent Felony, Reckless Endangerment, and Aggravated Assault Resulting in Death. Authorities have stated that the two teenagers were known to each other and that there was no ongoing threat to the public. As the legal process moves forward, Jayden's family is left to mourn a young life full of potential that was senselessly taken.
