On February 10, 2025, 34-year-old African American woman Matyka Brown was tragically killed in her home on Millicent Avenue in Dayton, Ohio. The incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. Brown's two daughters, aged 9 and 14, managed to escape the house and sought help from a neighbor, who then called 911.
Authorities identified the suspect as 32-year-old Tony Eugene Jackson Jr., Brown's former boyfriend.
Jackson had a history of violent offenses, including a 2020 conviction for aggravated robbery and kidnapping. He was released on parole in August 2024. In October 2024, Jackson was arrested for strangling Brown, but the case was dismissed after a grand jury declined to indict him.
On the night of the shooting, Jackson reportedly broke into Brown's home through a window and waited inside. When Brown and her daughters were upstairs, he confronted them with a firearm. As the children fled, Jackson shot Brown multiple times, resulting in her death.
Jackson was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated murder, murder, aggravated burglary, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and having weapons while under disability. He pleaded not guilty and is being held on a $3 million bond.
