On the night of April 29, 2025, Ja’Niya Richburg, an 18-year-old African American female and standout basketball player from Loris High School in Conway, South Carolina, was fatally shot when a bullet entered her boyfriend's home through a window. The incident occurred around 10:53 p.m. on Horry Street. Ja’Niya was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting.
