On May 6, 2025, Adam Hakeem Clark, a 22-year-old Black male from Barnwell, South Carolina, was fatally shot following a confrontation at a residence on Bomba Street. The incident, which law enforcement officials described as a home invasion turned deadly, occurred late in the evening across from a local Walmart. Clark reportedly arrived at the apartment of 22-year-old Aubretta Dunbar, with whom he shared a child, demanding to see the toddler.
Witnesses stated that after a brief verbal exchange where Clark allegedly threatened those inside, he forced his way into the dwelling, bypassing Dunbar and approaching another occupant, 26-year-old Larmarion Williams.
As Clark entered the apartment, Williams produced a firearm and discharged it, striking Clark. Despite sustaining gunshot wounds, including one to the hip, Clark allegedly continued to advance before eventually retreating outside the apartment complex. Once outside, Clark reportedly took cover behind a neighboring building and returned fire, striking Williams in the upper thigh. Emergency responders transported both men to the Bamberg-Barnwell Emergency Medical Center. Clark was pronounced dead shortly after arrival due to his injuries, while Williams received treatment for his gunshot wound.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, investigators from the Barnwell Police Department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division began reviewing the evidence, including shell casings and weapons recovered from the scene. As of the initial reports, no arrests had been made. Barnwell Police Chief Michael Butts indicated that the shooting might be ruled as a case of self-defense, noting that the investigation was ongoing and being reviewed by the 2nd Circuit Solicitor’s Office to determine if any charges would be filed against Williams. Clark was laid to rest following services at the Ned Branch Missionary Baptist Church.
