On March 27, 2025, at approximately 1:09 p.m., police responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 100 block of Rochelle Street in Pittsburgh's Knoxville neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers discovered 17-year-old Tyrome Gatewood shot inside a residence. Despite officers' immediate life-saving efforts, Gatewood was pronounced dead by medics shortly after their arrival.
Following the incident, authorities arrested 17-year-old Kyhree Harpe, who was subsequently charged with criminal homicide in connection with Gatewood's death. According to court documents, a witness statement revealed that Harpe and Gatewood were playing with firearms and reloading magazines at the time of the fatal incident. The circumstances led to Harpe being charged as the primary suspect in Gatewood's death.
