In the early morning hours of January 26, 2025, the life of 23-year-old Jeremiah Maddox was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire on Ferris Street in Rochester, New York. Responding to calls of a shooting shortly after 2 a.m., police arrived to find a grim scene at a house near Culver Road. Multiple gunshots had been fired into the residence from the outside.
Inside, officers discovered Maddox, who had been fatally wounded and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jeremiah, a male, was not the only person struck by the hail of bullets. A 19-year-old man was also inside the house and suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his lower body. He was transported to Strong Hospital for treatment. Three other individuals who were also inside the home at the time of the shooting were fortunate to escape unharmed. The owner of the property informed investigators that the house was not currently occupied but was kept as an extra home for his children.
Known to his friends as 'Sav' or 'Slatt,' Jeremiah was remembered as a genuine, humble, and loving person who brought positive energy into the lives of those around him. He was a devoted father to his daughter, Stormy, and was actively pursuing his GED and had recently obtained a DBA for his business. He was described as a passionate entrepreneur who was focused on his physical health and was a leader among his peers.
The Rochester Police Department's Major Crimes Homicide Unit is leading the investigation into the shooting. As of the initial reports, authorities had not identified any suspects and were seeking information from the public to help solve the case that senselessly ended a young man's life. No arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the homicide.
