On the evening of January 30, 2025, a tragic event unfolded in Tulsa, Oklahoma, leading to the death of 23-year-old Dylan Axlexander Wade. A white male, Wade was with another individual in a red Hyundai at Terrace Park, located near 25th and Memorial, when the incident occurred at approximately 9:55 p.m.
According to police reports, the individual with Wade stated that he was handling a pistol and accidentally discharged the weapon, not realizing it was loaded.
The single gunshot struck Wade in the shoulder. Following the shooting, the individual who fired the weapon immediately rendered aid to Wade and placed a call to 911 for emergency assistance. Emergency services arrived at the scene and transported Wade to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival.
The investigation into the shooting took a jurisdictional turn due to the suspect's status as a tribal member. Under the McGirt ruling, this places the case within the purview of federal authorities. Consequently, the Tulsa Police Department handed the investigation over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and federal prosecutors to determine if any charges would be filed in connection with the fatal shooting. The identity of the suspect has not been released, and no immediate arrest was made following the incident that authorities have described as an accidental shooting.
Dylan Wade, born on October 12, 2001, in Clinton, Iowa, had a diverse upbringing, having lived and attended schools in Ohio, Oklahoma, Arizona, and North Carolina. During his time in school, he was a member of the Nathan Hale ROTC. He had recently returned to Tulsa in December 2024 and was employed at Ike's Chili, his family's restaurant. Described as having a passion for human rights and helping others, he was known for his kindness, generosity, and adventurous spirit.
