Excenia Mette, a 61-year-old African American woman, was fatally shot on April 22, 2025, in Harlem, New York. The tragic incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. along Malcolm X Boulevard, where Mette, a longtime resident of the neighborhood, was caught in the crossfire between two groups engaged in a shootout. She was struck by a stray bullet while standing on the sidewalk outside her home. Emergency responders transported her to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, but she was later pronounced dead.
