In early February 2025, the community of St. Louis, Missouri, was shaken by the discovery of a young man’s body in the Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood. La’Trez Clay, a 23-year-old Black male, was found deceased on the morning of Thursday, February 6, 2025. His body was located near a vacant building in the 1700 block of Union Boulevard, an area situated along the boundary of the Kingsway West neighborhood.
The discovery marked the tragic end to a search that had begun days earlier.
Clay had last been seen leaving his home on the 1900 block of Semple Avenue on the evening of Sunday, February 2. When he failed to return, his concerned family reported him missing and began canvassing the area themselves. It was during this search that family members ultimately located his body around 11:30 a.m. on that Thursday and contacted authorities.
Upon receiving the call, officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene, where they found Clay lying on the ground suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel arrived shortly thereafter but were unable to save him, pronouncing him dead at the scene. Homicide detectives subsequently launched an investigation into the fatal shooting, appealing to the public for any information regarding the incident. As of the available reports following the discovery, no arrests had been made, and police had not publicly identified any suspects in the case.
