John Doe, a 32-year-old man, tragically lost his life on March 17, 2025, in Pueblo Pintado, New Mexico. According to reports, Doe was at a residence with Thurman Curley, a 35-year-old enrolled member of the Navajo Nation. The two men were drinking together when an argument erupted, escalating into a physical altercation. Witnesses reported hearing multiple threats exchanged between them before a gunshot rang out.
Curley was then seen outside the residence holding a firearm.
Officers from the Navajo Nation Police Department responded swiftly to a 911 call and attempted life-saving measures on John Doe. Despite their efforts, Doe succumbed to his injuries at the scene. FBI agents later recovered a handgun and a single shell casing from the location. Authorities subsequently charged Curley with murder, and he is currently awaiting trial. If convicted, he could face a sentence of up to life in prison.
The case is being handled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Albuquerque Field Office, with assistance from the Navajo Police Department and the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. The prosecution is led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mia Ulibarri-Rubin. Officials have emphasized that the charges against Curley remain allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
