A violent incident in Jackson, Mississippi, claimed the life of 42-year-old Black male Jemar Brooks in early February 2025. On the afternoon of Saturday, February 1, 2025, around 4:30 p.m., authorities were called to a scene near the intersection of Livingston Road and Northside Drive. Upon arrival, officers with the Jackson Police Department discovered Brooks suffering from gunshot wounds.
The situation was initially treated as an aggravated assault investigation as emergency responders worked to attend to the victim.
Brooks was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where medical personnel attempted to save his life. Despite these efforts, he succumbed to his injuries the following day, Sunday, February 2, 2025. Following his death, the investigation was upgraded to a homicide case. Brooks was known to be a student at Hinds Community College, where he was remembered by peers and faculty.
In the days immediately following the shooting, detectives identified a suspect in connection with the killing. The Jackson Police Department issued arrest warrants for 42-year-old Sannone Jackson. Law enforcement officials announced that Sannone Jackson was wanted on charges of capital murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Police circulated his name and description, urging anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact Crime Stoppers or the police department directly, as they worked to locate him and bring him into custody.
