On a Saturday evening in Kansas City, Missouri, a burst of violence shattered the quiet of the South Blue Valley neighborhood. Just before 7 p.m. on March 29, 2025, police were dispatched to the 5600 block of East 29th Street following reports of a shooting. In the front yard of a residence, they discovered 56-year-old Pamela Ahmed suffering from gunshot wounds to her upper body.
Despite the quick response of emergency medical crews, Pamela was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation into Pamela's death, which marked the city's 36th homicide of the year, quickly focused on a suspect. Surveillance footage from the home where she was found captured a man driving up in a Chevrolet Tahoe, getting out of the vehicle, and crossing a portion of the front yard. The video then allegedly shows the man shooting Pamela multiple times with a handgun as she approached him from the house. An eyewitness provided investigators with a potential motive, stating that Pamela had recently developed an addiction to crack cocaine and that the man who arrived at her home was her alleged drug dealer. According to the witness, just before stepping outside, Pamela had indicated that her dealer had arrived.
Investigators identified the man in the video as 39-year-old Damien A. Carter. They were able to match him to both the Chevrolet Tahoe seen at the scene and the handgun allegedly used in the shooting, leading to his arrest. Carter, who has a criminal history that includes convictions for burglary, armed criminal action, firearm theft, harassment, and possession of illegal substances, was subsequently charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action. He is being held on a $25,000 bond.
Pamela was remembered as a woman with an amazingly giving heart who 'never met a stranger' and 'loved hard and played even harder.' She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jamal Ahmed, a sister, and a cousin. She is survived by a large family including a sister and five brothers, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins who said her love for them knew no bounds. A celebration of her life was scheduled to be held in April.
