In the late hours of a Tuesday night in Vicksburg, Mississippi, the life of 19-year-old Quincy Peoples was tragically cut short. On March 11, 2025, police responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Locust and Jefferson streets. Upon their arrival, they discovered Peoples suffering from gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that it stemmed from an armed robbery connected to a significant quantity of narcotics. Shortly after Peoples was found, two other individuals arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds, linking them to the same violent encounter. The Vicksburg Police Department, led by Chief Penny Jones, launched an intensive investigation into the complex circumstances surrounding the incident.
Within a short period, authorities made arrests in connection with the murder of Quincy Peoples. Two suspects, Tyler Terry of Canton and Javien Shannon of Jackson, were taken into custody. Both men faced a string of serious charges, including capital murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a weapon, and armed robbery. Shannon faced an additional charge for possession of a stolen firearm. A third individual, Tayvion Pope, was later arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana in relation to the armed robbery. Investigators have indicated that they are actively seeking other individuals who may have been involved in the robbery, suggesting that more arrests could be forthcoming as the investigation continues to unfold.
