In the early morning hours of Sunday, April 13, 2025, the life of 24-year-old Luis Esquivel was tragically cut short. The young man was leaving a party at a banquet hall in the eastern part of Las Vegas when a verbal dispute escalated into deadly violence. At approximately 1:31 a.m., in a parking lot near the 3900 block of East Owens Avenue, shots rang out.
When officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene near Owens Avenue and Pecos Road, they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Esquivel, along with 21-year-old Carlos Garcia Sanchez, were both pronounced dead at the scene. The initial investigation suggested that what began as a simple argument had quickly turned fatal. The sudden eruption of gunfire shattered the post-party atmosphere, leaving behind a scene of irreversible loss for two families. The motive behind the altercation that led to the shooting was not immediately clear to authorities.
The investigation into the double homicide moved swiftly, and within a few days, authorities made their first arrest. Julio Bautista-Martinez, 24, was taken into custody and appeared in court on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. He was formally charged with two counts of murder and ordered to be held without bail. The following day, a second suspect, 26-year-old Henry Ramirez, was also apprehended. Ramirez was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on two counts of open murder, further advancing the quest for justice for Luis Esquivel and Carlos Garcia Sanchez.
