On January 25, 2025, 10-year-old African American girl E’vaa Sewell suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at her grandmother’s home in the 3500 block of Ingleside Avenue in northwest Baltimore. She was found by her grandmother, 51-year-old Alethea Mitchell, who initially believed the child had cut herself with scissors.
