On a Sunday evening in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the life of Antoine Christopher Parker, a 42-year-old African American man, was tragically cut short. On February 9, 2025, around 7:45 p.m., police officers responded to a call and found Parker on Jackson Street, near the corner of 30th Street, where he had been fatally shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Parker's death took a swift and unexpected turn.
Just half an hour after Parker was discovered, another shooting was reported merely half a mile away. At this second scene, law enforcement found an injured individual, Derick Holmes, who had sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment in stable condition.
Through their investigation, detectives were able to link the two seemingly separate shooting incidents. The evidence led them to identify the injured man from the second shooting, Derick Holmes, as the primary suspect in the killing of Antoine Parker. The day after the shooting, Holmes was taken into custody and arrested for his alleged involvement in Parker's death. While it remains unclear who shot Holmes, authorities credited help from the community in piecing together the events of that evening and bringing a suspect into custody.
