On April 24, 2025, Kelsey Mon'Cavonta Dewaye Elem, a 25-year-old Black transgender woman, was fatally shot in her home in the Affton neighborhood of St. Louis County, Missouri. The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. during a domestic dispute with her 21-year-old boyfriend, Martino Lewis.
