In the early morning hours of October 14, 2025, 29-year-old Trinity Staten, a Black woman from Normandy, Missouri, was shot and killed in St. Louis. The incident occurred just after 2:20 a.m. outside a Mobil gas station in the North Riverfront neighborhood. Staten had reportedly been in an argument with her boyfriend, 31-year-old Jeremie Northcross, and had called a Lyft to leave the location.
As Staten entered the rideshare vehicle, Northcross allegedly circled the car on a bicycle
before opening fire. Security footage from the gas station captured the moments leading up to the shooting. Despite being shot, the Lyft driver, who was unharmed, heroically rushed Staten to a nearby hospital in an attempt to save her life. Tragically, Trinity Staten succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. She had celebrated her 29th birthday just five days prior to her death.
Jeremie Northcross was taken into custody at the scene of the shooting. According to police, Northcross admitted to the shooting during an interview. Law enforcement found 9mm ammunition in his vehicle, and ballistic evidence from a 9mm handgun was recovered from the scene. Prosecutors have charged Northcross with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is being held without bond. During a court appearance, Northcross reportedly shook his head at Staten's family and claimed he 'didn't do it,' despite his alleged confession to police. The case is currently moving through the court system.
