In a heart-wrenching incident in St. Louis County, Missouri, a four-year-old girl named Aubreeyonna Muex tragically lost her life on January 27, 2025. The young female was at a residence in the 10500 block of Castle Drive when the fatal event occurred.
On that Monday afternoon, police responded to a call for a shooting and discovered the child with a gunshot wound. Emergency services transported her to a local hospital, but her injuries proved fatal, and she was pronounced deceased.
The subsequent investigation into the circumstances of her death led to the arrest of a family member.
Authorities arrested Aubreeyonna's 56-year-old grandmother, Detrice Young, in connection with the shooting. Investigators reported that Young was the sole owner of a firearm in the house and had a habit of sleeping with it under her pillow. On the day of the incident, the firearm was reportedly left unsecured. At the time of the shooting, there were two other adults and two other children, aged 2 and 11, in the home. The adults were awakened by the sound of a gunshot.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has charged Detrice Young with Endangering the Welfare of a Child Creating a Substantial Risk and Endangering the Welfare of a Child First Degree Resulting in Death. She is being held on a $50,000 bond. The investigation by the St. Louis County Police Department's Bureau of Crimes Against Persons is ongoing.
