In the cold of a Detroit evening on January 16, 2025, the life of 32-year-old Uniqua Sanders was tragically cut short. That night, in the parking lot of a liquor store on West Eight Mile Road, Uniqua was found in her vehicle with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. First responders arrived at the scene around 7:21 p.m. but were unable to save her; she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into her death quickly focused on her boyfriend, 34-year-old Jazzie Jermale Love.
According to prosecutors, an argument between the couple inside Uniqua's vehicle escalated with deadly consequences. It is alleged that Love exited the car from the passenger side, walked around to the driver's side, and fired a single shot that ended Uniqua's life.
Jazzie Jermale Love was arrested and subsequently charged in connection with the fatal shooting. The charges brought against him by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office include first-degree murder, carrying a concealed weapon, and felony firearm. He was arraigned on January 19, 2025, and was remanded to jail. His probable cause conference was scheduled for January 28, 2025, with a preliminary examination set for February 4, 2025.
