In the spring of 2025, a burst of violence on a Baltimore street cut short the life of a 30-year-old man, leaving a community to grapple with the sudden loss. Christopher Lavell Banks Jr., a Black male, was fatally shot on the evening of March 15, 2025. The incident unfolded around 9:44 p.m. in the 5400 block of Park Heights Avenue, a neighborhood in the Northwest District of the city. When patrol officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Banks suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to a local hospital for medical attention, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting was launched by homicide detectives who began piecing together the events that led to the fatal encounter. For months, the case remained under active investigation as authorities worked to identify those responsible for Banks' death. The break in the case came on June 20, 2025, when members of the Warrant Apprehension Task Force and U.S. Marshals located and arrested two suspects at a residence in Baltimore County. The individuals taken into custody were identified as 33-year-old Joseph Hubbard and 32-year-old Darius Bell.
Following their arrest, both Hubbard and Bell were transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility, where they were formally charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Christopher Lavell Banks Jr. In addition to the murder charges, both men also face multiple firearm violations, including the use of a firearm in a felony crime of violence. The case against the two co-defendants is now making its way through the Baltimore City Circuit Court. Pre-trial matters have been addressed, and the legal process is moving forward to determine the outcome of the charges against them. Joseph Hubbard's jury trial is scheduled to begin on March 18, 2026. Darius Bell is expected to have a trial date set during a court appearance on May 26 of the same year, as the wheels of justice continue to turn in the wake of a life tragically lost.
